The Indian Embassy in Cairo celebrated the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, where the Ambassador of India, Mr. Ajit Gupte, laid a wreath at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Al-Horreya Park in Zamalek, Cairo.
The celebration was graced by the presence of Major General Mohamed Sultan, Head of Specialized Gardens, Cairo Governorate.
On the eve of Gandhi’s birthday, the Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture organized the “Mahatma Gandhi Caricature Exhibition”, in collaboration with the Fayoum Caricature Museum and the Egyptian Caricature Platform to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The exhibition, which was held at the centre’s headquarters, included 40 caricatures of Gandhi drawn by artists from 12 countries, including India, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Romania, Indonesia, Colombia, Cyprus, Poland, Cuba, Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Egypt.
During the inauguration of the exhibition, Ambassador Ajit Gupte delivered the opening remarks in which he emphasized the importance of Gandhiji’s principles of non-violence, peace and cleanliness (Swachhata). He urged everyone to follow these values in their daily lives.
He added that the celebration of Gandhiji’s birth anniversary in Cairo is a testimony to the enduring strength of relations between India and Egypt, as the two countries share a rich history of cultural exchange and mutual respect.
Mahatma Gandhi’s principles resonate closely with the values of both countries, strengthening bilateral ties that transcend borders.
