Germany provides humanitarian aid worth 113 million euros in support of Lebanon

The German Embassy in Cairo announced that Germany will provide humanitarian aid to Lebanon worth 113 million euros during 2024, of which 81.3 million euros are allocated to the World Food Program and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced the provision of 62 million euros as a rapid response to the escalation of fighting in Lebanon, during the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Germany also allocated 5 million euros to the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund, as part of the emergency plan to deal with the increasing needs, in addition to increasing the funding allocated to the High Commissioner and the World Food Program, bringing Germany’s contribution to 30.6 million and 50.7 million euros, respectively.

$10 million was also allocated to Lebanon from the Central Emergency Response Fund.

In the medical sector, Germany provided 2.2 million euros to support the Lebanese Red Cross through the German Red Cross, with the aim of enhancing emergency services and blood transfusion.

It also supported the operation of four mobile clinics in cooperation with Malteser International and the Order of Malta, aimed at supporting the displaced in southern Lebanon.

The embassy indicated that Germany continues to fund projects aimed at achieving stability and transitional development in Lebanon, stressing the importance of full adherence to international humanitarian laws in conflict areas.
