Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has confirmed that he has yet to receive an official offer from Liverpool to renew his contract, suggesting that he might be closer to leaving the club next summer than staying. The contract of the Egyptian national team captain expires at the end of the current season, leaving his future uncertain.
In an interview with The Athletic, Salah said, “We are about to enter December, and I haven’t received any offers to stay at the club yet.
I might stay outside the club more than I stay in it.” Salah clarified that his relationship with Liverpool remains strong, but the final decision regarding his future is not solely up to him. He added, “I’ve been here for many years, there’s no club like this, but in the end, it’s not up to me, as I said before, we’re on the verge of December and I haven’t received anything yet about my future.”
Salah expressed his love for Liverpool fans, saying, “I love the fans, and the fans love me, but in the end, it’s not in my hands or in the hands of the fans. Let’s wait and see.”
Regarding his disappointment at not receiving an offer yet, he said, “Of course, yes, I won’t retire soon. I’m just playing and focusing on the season, trying to win the Premier League and maybe the Champions League as well. I’m disappointed, but we’ll see.”
According to the same newspaper, Liverpool has been in contact with Ramy Abbas, Salah’s agent, and negotiations have been positive and ongoing regarding a contract renewal for the player.
Several reports have recently linked Salah with a move to the Saudi Pro League, where Liverpool rejected a £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad in 2023. However, Salah insisted on rejecting the ongoing interest from Saudi Arabia.
Salah said about this, “I don’t want to talk about this. I’m focusing with the team now. I’m currently outside the club more than inside it.”
It’s worth noting that Salah continues to deliver impressive performances with Liverpool this season, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists in 18 games across all competitions. He can also sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club starting from January 1st.
