A delegation from the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Cairo, including Minister Plenipotentiary Khalifa bin Rashid Al Shamsi, Deputy Ambassador of Oman to Cairo, Brigadier General Salah Al Mazrouei, and Colonel Sayyid Asaad Al Busaidi, received the Royal Navy of Oman ship, Shabab Oman II, upon its arrival at Alexandria Port as part of its seventh international voyage (Glory of the Seas 2025) bound for Europe.
This visit comes within the framework of the distinguished relations between the Sultanate of Oman and Egypt and the strong ties that unite the two brotherly countries in various fields. The ship carries the Sultanate of Oman’s message of peace and love to all peoples of the world, highlighting its civilizational and cultural role at the regional and international levels, and promoting the Sultanate of Oman’s maritime achievements.
The Shabab Oman II ship seeks to convey its message of strengthening the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between the Sultanate of Oman and various countries around the world by introducing authentic Omani culture at its various international stops. It also highlights the Sultanate’s glorious maritime history, its rich heritage, and the progress and prosperity the Sultanate enjoys.
It is worth noting that the Royal Navy of Oman ship Shabab Oman’s program for peace and sustainable cultural dialogue has been included in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) List of Best Practices for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This represents an international achievement, the result of the dedicated efforts and pioneering national roles played by the Shabab Oman ship through its lofty national mission of building bridges of cultural and civilizational communication between nations.
This trip is of great importance as it coincides with the Sultanate of Oman’s participation in the high-level session of the UN Security Council on “Enhancing Maritime Security through International Cooperation for Global Stability,” held in New York. Oman firmly believes that the security of the seas and waterways is one of the fundamental pillars of maintaining regional and international stability, ensuring freedom of navigation, the continuity of global trade, safeguarding food and energy security, and promoting sustainable development.
In its speech, Oman emphasized its commitment to harmonizing national legislation with relevant international law, most notably the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), which is based on the principle of freedom of navigation, guarantees the responsibilities of coastal and transit states, and establishes the legal foundations for settling maritime disputes.
Oman also emphasized its commitment to strengthening adherence to international law, particularly the UNCLOS, as the comprehensive legal framework for all activities in the seas and oceans. It also emphasized the need to fully implement relevant Security Council resolutions and cooperate with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other relevant bodies.
It is certain that the Sultanate of Oman, based on its foreign policy based on the principles of good neighborliness, non-interference, and respect for international law, will remain a responsible partner in enhancing maritime security, ensuring stability in international waterways, and supporting multilateral efforts to find effective and comprehensive solutions to the challenges facing the seas and oceans, in a manner that preserves international peace and security and serves the interests of all peoples.
