The highest representative body of popular power in the Republic of Belarus, which defines strategic areas for the development of society and the state, and guarantees the inviolability of the constitutional order, continuity of generations and civil harmony, in the period from 24 to 25 April.
According to a statement issued by the Belarusian Embassy in Cairo, the first large-scale popular forum was held in Belarus in October 1996, which brought together representatives from all regions of the country, and people from different social groups, professions and ages, to discuss vital matters related to the life of society.
This unified way of discussing the main tasks and guidelines for the country’s future development has taken root.
Since Belarus gained independence, the Belarusian People’s Assembly has already convened six times in 1996, 2001, 2006, 2010, 2016 and 2021.
The Belarusian People’s Assembly has become a special form of people’s democracy.
It is a democratic institution that allows Belarusian citizens to more widely exercise their right to participate in national affairs, not only through elections at various levels and referendums, the work of parliament and municipal councils of deputies, through communication with people’s deputies.
The National Forum included delegates from every region of the country, representatives of all authorities, all areas of the production sector, the private sector, the science and education sectors, health care and culture, university students and veterans.
These professional people and leaders, who are ready to speak on topical affairs and put forward their own proposals, have been nominated and elected at workers’ rallies and during general meetings.
Apart from that, representatives of the diplomatic corps, Belarusian diaspora, international organizations and foreign guests were invited to participate in the Belarusian People’s Assembly.
In accordance with the established tradition, the Belarusian People’s Congress is held every five years, in the form of an event consisting of two days of active work for delegates from all over the country.
The preparations for the forum and the summarization of the results took several months, a period in which public discussions about the nation’s achievements and problems reached their peak, the results of the previous five years were summarized, and proposals related to the future development strategy were put forward.
