Martin Skrtel, former defender of English team Liverpool, believes that the upcoming summit match between Liverpool and Manchester City next Sunday will not determine the winner of the English Premier League.
The two teams, best in recent years, will face each other in Merseyside.
The home advantage has played an important role in favor of Liverpool, where the team has only lost once – three years ago – to City since 2003, and in the last 50 matches between the two clubs at Anfield, the Reds have only suffered three defeats.
Skrtel believes that it would be wrong to consider the winner of Sunday’s match as the one who will be crowned the champion, especially since Arsenal, the third-placed team, which is still in the competition for the title, will visit Manchester City at the end of this month, with only two points separating the top three teams.
Skrtel said in press statements, “The match against Manchester City is always big, especially in recent seasons, which have seen competition with Liverpool for the league title, but I do not think it will be decisive, given the many matches remaining in the league.”
He added, “In the English Premier League, you can lose points anywhere, and also Arsenal is in the competition for the title.”
He emphasized, “I will not predict how the competition will end, but I hope that Liverpool will overcome Manchester City and move a step closer to winning the league title.”
