British media reports have revealed that Michael Edwards has agreed to return to Liverpool after negotiations with the club owners during the upcoming summer.

Edwards departed from his position as sporting director of Liverpool in the summer of 2022 after spending 11 years at the club. Since his departure, he has established his own consulting company.

During his tenure with Liverpool as sporting director, he gained a great reputation for his role in negotiations with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Alisson, as well as for the departure of Philippe Coutinho for £142 million to Barcelona. He helped the club maximize profits and secure contracts.

The British website “Liverpool Echo” confirmed that Michael Edwards has agreed to return to Liverpool in the upcoming summer, as the 44-year-old has been convinced by negotiations with the club owners, FSG.

One of Edwards’ first tasks will be to appoint a new sporting director, as he will return to the position of chief executive officer. It is expected that Richard Hughes will take up that position after announcing his departure from Bournemouth, as the two have been long-time friends.

Additionally, Edwards will also be looking to appoint a successor to Jürgen Klopp, with strong links to Xabi Alonso, one of the preferred candidates to replace the German, given his significant development with Bayer Leverkusen this season.

Michael Edwards turned down several offers from Manchester United and Chelsea after negotiations began with Liverpool, initiated by club owner John Henry.

Liverpool have set the selling price for the first-team football winger, Mohamed Salah, in the upcoming summer transfer market.

Mohamed Salah’s name has recently been linked with a possible move to the Saudi Arabian league, with interest from Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal.

Al-Ittihad was keen to sign Mohamed Salah last summer and tried more than once, offering a bid worth £150 million.
