The Korean ambassador discusses ways to enhance cooperation with Egypt in the field of information and communications technology

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt, Kim Young-hyun, met with the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation in the information and communications technology sector between Korea and Egypt.

Ambassador Kim pointed out that Korea, a leading force in the field of information and communications technology, is actively cooperating with Egypt in the information and communications technology sector, including cooperation projects implemented by the Korea International Cooperation Agency for the digital transformation of government services.

He explained that the Korea International Cooperation Agency is working in partnership with Egyptian authorities to create digital platforms in the areas of government procurement, intellectual property rights, and customs inspection based on risks.
He added that there are several cooperation projects in the field of information and communications technology under implementation, including the establishment of the Digital Government Cooperation Center between Korea and Egypt, through which Korean ICT experts will be sent to Egypt to conduct more close cooperation to aid digital transformation in Egypt.
Ambassador Kim also discussed with Minister Talaat the preparatory situation for the inaugural Korea-Africa summit, which will be held from June 4 to 5 of this year in Korea. He pointed out that cooperation in the field of science, technology and digital transformation is one of the priority areas of cooperation for the summit under the slogan “3 S’: Shared Growth, Sustainability, and Solidarity.”
Minister Talaat indicated that he appreciates the Korean partnership with Egypt in the information and communications technology sector, adding that he would like to enhance cooperation by exploring more areas of cooperation. The Minister also stressed the importance of partnership with the private sector, expressing his happiness at the thriving bilateral cooperation in the private sector as many Korean ICT companies are actively operating in Egypt. He added that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is ready to work with Korean partners to attract more investments to Egypt, including the fields of electronic design, embedded software, and artificial intelligence.
Ambassador Kim and Minister Talaat agreed to continue joint efforts to enhance job opportunities between the two countries.
