German Football Legend Andres Brehme Passes Away

By Mary Nady

Former Germany defender Andres Bremer has died aged 63.

Brehme’s late penalty in the final of the 1990 FIFA World Cup secured the win for Germany against Argentina to capture the Golden Cup.

He represented the German national team in 86 international matches, scoring 8 goals, and won championship titles with Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
Brahm’s partner, Susanne Schaefer, told the DPA that he died “suddenly” from cardiac arrest.

Bayern Munich responded to the news by saying: “Bayern is deeply shocked by the sudden passing of Andreas Bremer.”

“We will always remember Andreas Bremer – not only as a world champion but also as a very special person.”

“He will always be part of the Bayern family. Rest in peace, dear Andy.”
